Dog Training: Teach Your Dog To Sit

If you have a new dog or puppy, you most certainly want to teach them basic commands. You may want to explore the variety of training options. However, there are two primary methods which are recommended to teach your dog. One is the Click and the other is the Compulsory method. Both of these methods are effective for training dogs.

The click method is designed to give your dog an audible clue that a reward is forthcoming if he does what he is asked. Some people actually use a Clicker, which can be purchased for this. Other people just make a clicking noise or some other type of sound that is easily recognized by your dog. Whenever the audible cue is given or sound, you will immediately reward your dog with a treat.

Then stop giving the cue and wait for your dog to look up t you. Then it is recommended that you place the treat at chest level so that the dog has to sit and look up to see the treat. When the dog begins to sit then yell, "Sit" and reward the dog. After awhile with practice, a dog will begin to sit once the command is given.

The compulsory method is used more often and is a traditional way to teach a dog commands. You essentially tell the dog to sit while you are pushing his butt down. The idea is to teach the dog that this command means the dog should sit. Once he does, reward him.

Some people use a choke collar to teach this command. Some trainers do not recommend using a choke collar as it does bind and choke the dog. This may induce pain and fear in your dog which may lead to severe aggression in the future. It also may make leash training more difficult because the dog equates the leash with pain.

The best advice is to remain consistent. Your dog can be easily confused so try not to confuse them by teaching several commands at once or using different words for the same command. This also teaches your dog in a subtle way, who the boss is.

All dogs need to learn basic commands so that they learn to respect their master and are aware who the boss is. Dogs appreciate the added attention they are receiving as well as the treats! You may discover that your dog is a quick learner and you are able to teach them a lot of commands.

Take the time to teach your dog some basic commands. You will notice a drastic improvement in their behavior. Dogs enjoy interacting with you and learning new tricks. It is fun for you and your dog
