Dog Training: Reward Your Dog's Good Behavior

Dogs can be a lot of fun and enjoyable for the whole family, if they are trained properly. You need to watch out for aggression in your dog because this can cause problems such as biting and other dominant behaviors.

It is important to train your dog so that he knows who the master is and what the limits of his behavior are. Statistics show that over 60% of dog bites happen with family pets.

The object of dog training is to reward your dog when he exhibits positive behavior. Some people reward their dogs, with goodies, praise or both when they are good.

It is simple. When you ask your dog to sit and he does. Then you give him a treat. The dog will learn that if he sits then he gets a treat.

If you are having particular problems with your dog such as chewing or digging, you may want to crate your dog during the day. Then at night when you are home to observe your dog, you will want to catch him exhibiting this bad behavior and say, "No" loudly and firmly. You will need to continually reinforce to your dog that this is unacceptable behavior.

Dog training takes a great deal of energy and patience. You as well as others in your family need to be consistent and to give the same commands so that your dog is not confused. Your dog must learn what is acceptable behavior and what is not.

The negative repercussions of training your dog should include not giving them treats and a loud and firm, "No." it is not acceptable to hit or strike a dog in anyway. This will only promote fear in your dog and they will not be open to changing or learning acceptable behavior.

Another point to consider is the tone of your voice. A loud and firm, "No" should be just back. If you are petting and hugging your dog, your voice is much lower and calmer.

Take the time to train your dog and everyone in your household will be much happier. If your dog is trained he will know the restrictions and will seldom if ever abuse them. A dog that is trained is happier because he has more freedom and does not get into trouble and gets treats for good behavior!

If your dog is trained you will be much happier and so will everyone in your family. It you are going to have a dog, the very least you can teach them is to obey and listen to your commands so that all of you live a more peaceful life. You certainly cannot enjoy a dog, if he is getting in trouble all the time.
